(Captain James Cook
Two original lithographs from the graphic kit of the work “Naturgeschichte und Abbildungen der Menschen und der Saugetiere” printed by the swiss lithographer Honegger and published in Zurich between 1830 and 1835.
Very nice examples on wove paper, with some slight foxing traces more accentuated at the edges, otherwise in good general condition, embellished with a bright and accurate recent watercolouring.
Two interesting episodes of the exploration by the English Captain James Cook (1728 - 1779) of the New Hebrids islands in the South Pacific, which today are known as the nation of Vanuatu.
The two oil on wood paintings by William Hodges (1744 - 1797) dating from around 1776, were made after the return to London of Cook's second expedition to the Pacific Ocean between 1772 and 1775 in which Hodges officially took part to produce written and drawn reports to be used for the publication of travel diaries and are now part of the collections of the National Maritime Museum of Greenwich in London.
